With the first snow of winter falling and actually sticking in the Sedona area this past week, the true meaning of “winter” finally holds strong, and with the soccer season wrapping up, it’s kind of ironic the white rain comes this late.

Like the snow,…

When Sedona residents Joe Fuss and Sherry Christoff crossed the finish line last year at the third annual Sedona Marathon, they may have been together at that moment but the pair certainly followed two different trails of bread crumbs to arrive there.

Fuss, a 31-year-old father of two, is a two-time Sedona Marathon winner. He won in 2007 and used a 3:02:45 time to win the race in 2008, nearly three minutes ahead of anyone else.

This year however, Fuss will only run the half marathon.…

Coyotes hunt down victory over Oak Creek, 32-19

The Big Park Middle School boys basketball team has certainly struggled this season on the hardwood, but Coyote head coach Dan Wolf and his boys never quit as they earned a nice victory over Oak Creek Middle School.…

Scorpions trounce River Valley, 69-38

The Sedona Red Rock High girls basketball team showed just how good they could be when things are clicking Friday, Jan. 9, when they destroyed lowly River Valley High in front of a good home crowd, 69-38.

Sedona was without their head coach, John Cunningham, who was out of town on family business, but the Scorpions didn’t skip a beat and showed no weaknesses on the court on Friday night.

Assistant head coach Don Adams took the top spot on the sideline, leading his Scorpions past a Dust Devil team that has won only one game all year.…

Players and coaches from the Sedona Red Rock High girls basketball team found out quickly in the Yvonne Johnson Memorial Shootout on Dec. 29-30 that if a few key players are sitting on the bench with foul trouble, the Scorpions will struggle on the court. …

Nobody said winning five games and taking home the eighth annual White Mountain Holiday Classic title would be easy, and the Sedona Red Rock High boys basketball team found that out, failing to defend their championship from last season, finishing 3-2 overall.

Last season, the Scorpions did go 5-0 and did take home the tournament championship trophy but this year, in a seemingly more difficult pool of opponents, Sedona still came out with three wins.…

The life of a motocross racer starts at an early age, with an adventurous child receiving their first bike, usually something called a PW-50, at the ripe old age of 5 or 6 years old.

The guardians of the child, parents or not, have officially passed on a love carried by them for years in an effort to relive past dreams of flying high. If not a past love, then a love of those who surround the young racer either on television or friends from the neighborhood.…

All eyes within the 1A-3A conference have turned to the Sedona Red Rock High girls soccer team who, after an impressive 3-1 overtime victory over Northwest Christian Academy on Monday, Dec. 15, claimed the top spot in the state rankings which came out this week.

“I think the girls are starting to prove how good we can be,” Sedona head coach Tom Cadigan said.

In an earlier article in the Nov. 26 edition of the Sedona Red Rock News, it was said the girls would be OK this season, finishing around .500 but might have a disappointing year due to a much tougher schedule playing in the winter.…
