Usually when writing these season previews for our favorite teams in Sedona, a recap of last season, key losses, top returners and even top newcomers are the normal format.

For the newly formed Sedona Jr. High Scorpion football team, it is their first year of…

With the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing well under way, and the American swim team doing better than ever, the Sedona Red Rock High swim team began their preseason practice routines looking for another good showing at the 1A-3A state championship meet like they had during the 2007 campaign.

For the boys, the Scorpions scored 316 points in last year’s 1A-3A state championship meet, good enough for a second place finish, falling only to Valley Christian High, who finished with 344 points and walked away with the title.…

A new trend will begin during this 2008-09 school year which will see the Sedona Red Rock High boys and girls soccer team now play in the winter instead of the more traditional fall season.

The soccer season starts Monday, Nov. 3.

The move was approved by board members of the Arizona Interscholastic Association back in May, so the Scorpions will get a chance to see new opponents and new road trips this coming winter.

The Scorpions will be placed in the 1A-3A North region, which boasts far more teams than the 1A-3A conference they have been in for 10-plus years.…

For the first time in Northern Arizona history, a 16-year-old tennis player has qualified for what is the largest and most prestigious junior tennis tournament in the United States …

“I had so much fun and I can’t wait to go back next year,” Barker said with a big smile on her face.…

Unlike the last meet on June 28 where the Sedona Swim Team dominated the competition because of sheer numbers, only 18 swimmers made the trip to Kingman. …

With all the crazy sports, sporting events or contests out there in this world, Crazy Cosmic Golf on Friday nights at Los Abrigados Resort & Spa can definitely be placed within the “weird” category.

The dark spin on mini-golf ranks up there in the “weird” category with the Polar Bear Club; professional hot dog eating contests; hog calling; milk chugging; caber tosses; and, of course, running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.…

On Monday, July 7, Sedona Red Rock High Athletic Director John Parks and Pinnacle One Project Manager Dave Young announced the re-opening of the newly completed football field and track project to the public.

“We are excited to inform the public that our refurbished football field and track project is now complete and open for use,” Parks said.

The finished $1.6 million product at SRRHS is only one part of a three-phase project using the $73.4 million bond fund approved last year by voters within the Sedona Oakcreek School District.…
