With the sun taking a seat behind the clouds like a football fan does in his favorite chair, teams began to arrive at Clarkdale-Jerome Middle School.

Sweatshirts, pants, long socks and beanie caps adorned their delicate runner bodies in an effort to keep all extremities warm for the upcoming competition.…

In the fourth quarter, freshman quarterback Jack Johnson hooked up with senior Max Keckeis for a 70-yard completion, the longest play of the day from scrimmage, to give the Scorpions a first and goal on the 3-yard line.

Despite the Sedona Red Rock High football team’s deficit of 44-0 to 3A-West region foe South Pointe High at the time on Friday, Sept. 26, players on the sideline felt this would be a much-needed positive to a otherwise negative night.…

The Sedona Red Rock High cross country team boarded a bus headed south on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and participated in the Fountain Hills High Invitational, which took place at Desert Canyon Golf Course. …

The Sedona Jr. High football team continues to search for answers as they dropped their fourth contest in a row, this time to Granite Mountain over the weekend by the final score of 32-0.

The biggest reason for Sedona’s early 0-4 record may be the fact that 11 of the 17 players on Sedona’s team also play on the Majors football team for the Red Rock Youth Football program.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Majors played a game against the Prescott Badgers and lost 19-16.…

Entering only their third season in existence the Scorpions [Majors] are expecting big things this year and hope to do well enough on the field to make the playoffs come November.

First year Head Coach Kent Adams has a positive outlook from his team this season, and judging by watching the boys beat up on each other in practice the past three weeks or so, he believes they will be readyto go.

“We have been at it for a while now with the pads on, and everything is going well so far,” Adams said.…

Usually when writing these season previews for our favorite teams in Sedona, a recap of last season, key losses, top returners and even top newcomers are the normal format.

For the newly formed Sedona Jr. High Scorpion football team, it is their first year of existence in this town, which may make this a special treat for those dedicated football fans out there who can’t wait to see how these kids play out this season.

With the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing well under way, and the American swim team doing better than ever, the Sedona Red Rock High swim team began their preseason practice routines looking for another good showing at the 1A-3A state championship meet like they had during the 2007 campaign.

For the boys, the Scorpions scored 316 points in last year’s 1A-3A state championship meet, good enough for a second place finish, falling only to Valley Christian High, who finished with 344 points and walked away with the title.…
