Jakob Carter takes a big turn during the 200 yard medley relay event Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Sedona Community Pool.The well-conditioned Sedona Red Rock Scorpions swim team won its quadrangular meet on Thursday, Sept. 26 by beating Gilbert Christian 194-126, Northland Prep 170-143 and Fredonia 230-17 just days after completing its annual 24-hour relay, and also competing in a dual meet in Flagstaff.


Sedona swimmers won eight of the 16 individual events and four of the six relays, and several Scorpions also achieved personal records in the meet, held at the Sedona Community Pool.


Individual winners included Colin Hurkett in the boys 200-yard freestyle, Laura Clark in the girls 200-yard individual medley, Shayla Dearment in the girls 50-yard freestyle, Cedar Gardner in the boys 50-yard freestyle, Benny Guadarrama in the boys 100-yard butterfly, Haley Holverson in the girls 100-yard freestyle, Emily Aitken in the girls 100-yard backstroke and Sophia Licher in the girls 100-yard breaststroke.


Relay team winners for the Scorpions included the girls 200-yard medley relay [Aitken, Licher, Clark, Holverson], the girls 200-yard freestyle relay [Licher, Dearment, Sarah Grover, Aitken], the boys 200-yard freestyle relay [Gardner, Jakob Carter, Guadarrama, Nick Morgan] and the girls 400-yard freestyle relay [Holverson, Dearment, Aitken, Clark].
