The Sedona Red Rock High golf team headed down to We-Ko-Pa at Fountain Hills High for an important conference match Thursday, March 15, with a major goal in mind — set a new school record for consecutive dual meet wins. The Scorpions are currently 12-0 and have a string of 38 consecutive wins dating back to 2005.

The all-time school golf record is 39 in 2000-01.

Guess who ended that streak?

Fountain Hills.

On March 8, Sedona won a four-way match at the Legacy Golf Course with a 214 team score, defeating Northwest Christian High, Phoenix Christian High and Phoenix Country Day.

Juan Pablo Cabellero Gonzalez led all golfers with a superb even-par round of 36.

?I could have done even better except I had two three-puts when I should have made par,? Gonzalez said.

Right behind Gonzalez was SRRHS Brian DeWulf, who recovered from a bogey and a double bogey on the first two holes to play the last seven holes in one under par, finishing with a 38. Other Scorpions scores included Stadler Ho with a 41, Brenden Biermann 47, Rob Helmkamp 52 and Allison Golf 52.

On Tuesday, March 13, Sedona dominated another four-way at the Sedona Golf Resort. After a slow start on the front nine, the Scorpions roared back on the final nine holes, leaving the opposition in the dust. Sedona?s team total was 412, Camp Verde High had 462, Bagdad High 476 and Williams High 514.

Once again, Gonzalez topped the field with an 18-hole score of 39-36 75. Every top Scorpions golfer improved on the back nine as Ho shot 41-48 79, Stefanie Fischer 44-39 83, DeWulf 44-42 86 and Biermann 51-38 89.

?The back nine scores for the top five totaled 193, and that is right where we would like to be at the end of the season. We generally improve substantially as the weather gets warmer and the golfers gain playing experience. The score hopefully means we are beginning to hit our stride as a team,? Head Coach Dennis Mobley said.
