It was pure success for the city of Sedona,” said Jackie Strickling, the organizer of the league. “The opportunity for the players to learn more about the game of basketball as well as the opportunity for the high school players, and the youth participants and the community to all work together was the best thing about it.

Jackie Strickling, center, the Sedona Red Rock High School girls basketball coach and organizer of the G-League youth basketball league in Sedona, talks with her high school players. The high school boys and girls basketball players were the coaches of the teams in the four divisions in the G-League as a way for them to be involved in peer mentorship and community service.“As the high school coaches, nothing is more exciting than being able to watch your high school players reach out to the youth in Sedona and help to educate them about the game of basketball.”

This is technically the sixth year the league has been run in Sedona, but it was restructured to provide a better basketball experience for the youth once Sedona Red Rock High School’s girls basketball coach Jackie Strickling and her husband, SRRHS boys basketball coach Greg Strickling, took it over.
