Five official errors and at least six others Sedona Red Rock High School head softball coach Mike Keider said went unscored Tuesday, April 15, were the undoing of the Scorpions [7-7] in a 11-8 loss at Chino Valley High School.

Sophomore Emma Keider makes it into home safely ahead of the throw into home plate Tuesday, March 25, in Sedona Red Rock High School's win over Cortez High School. The Scorpions have three games in which to overcome team errors for a shot at the Division III state tournament.
“The errors were basic: Pop flies, miscommunication, balls that should’ve been fielded in infield,” Keider said. “Even though they don’t show that after the initial error, there must have been at least 11 errors — base-running, a throw to second when there’s nobody at second, my shortstop should’ve had the ball, then it went by my center fielder, that’s how it was.”

Junior Kristina Schindele’s double batted in two runs and senior Randi Hatcher maintained her sectional batting average lead of .675 with a triple in three plate appearances against the Cougars. But these efforts came after the Scorpions were already down 10-0 and in danger of being run-ruled in the top of the fifth inning.

“We didn’t get a runner on base until the fourth inning,” Keider said. “They just popped them up in infield, like they did eight times the game before.”

That was a 16-2 win Monday, April 14, at Greyhills Academy, circumstances in which they wouldn’t have merited notice.
