Primary puts this election season’s finish line in sight

Here we are in the midst of election season when campaigning usually starts to get nasty.

Tuesday, Aug. 28, Arizona voters decide which of the candidates from their party to send into the ring for the general election.

Sedona Red Rock News Managing Editor Trista Steers MacVittieI sometimes feel as if election season never ends.

Between the presidential and congressional elections, state elections, county elections and local elections, residents don’t receive much reprieve from the inundation of information and mudslinging from both sides.

If you’ve made it this far and aren’t completely confused as to who stands for what and which politician is telling you the truth, there is good and bad news.

The good news is there is only two months left.

The bad news is, it’s only get to get worse as the playing field narrows and those left fight tooth and nail to win the job of putting our country on their “right track.” Oh yeah, and we get to do this again in a couple of years.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all we received were the facts and not the bad-mouthing, twisted truths and distractions from the real issues?

Sedona thankfully turned a new leaf in the last Sedona City Council election when candidates showed class and respect for each other running campaigns the way they should be — based on facts and not personal attacks.

Sedona Fire District appears to be following suit with the very strong likelihood there won’t even be a race, which is almost always true with the Sedona-Oak Creek School District Governing Board.

Unfortunately, after attending forums the last few weeks, I’m not holding my breath when it comes to state and federal elections.

Vote centers will again be used Aug. 28 for Sedona residents living in Yavapai County. Registered voters can cast a ballot at any vote center in the county.

The two Sedona centers will be located at Church of Christ in West Sedona and the Oakcreek Country Club in the Village of Oak Creek.

Sedona residents living in Coconino County are assigned a polling place based on where they live. These residents vote either at Wayside Chapel in Uptown or Christ Lutheran Church in the Chapel area.
