Study shows most won’t finish a new year’s resolution

If you’re reading this editorial, chances are you’ve already given up on your new year’s resolution.
In 2012, a little more than half the population, 117 million Americans, made a new year’s resolution. Keeping them, however, is far tougher.

Plan ahead for fun and safe festivities on New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is fast approaching. The last few days of the year post-Christmas give us time to reflect on the events of the previous year and our hope for things to change in the new year.
Newspapers, magazines, television stations and websites are rife with best-of, top 10 or year in review lists. Now deep in the age of the Internet, some video or photo montage clip generally goes “viral,” often with snippets of the best songs from the year.
We remember the world leaders and celebrities who have died in the past year and also reflect on the friends and family who have left our lives.…

Marijuana articles suggest differing sides need to debate

Two weeks ago, we ran two articles about marijuana written by reporter Ron Eland.

The law would impose certain restrictions about the amount of marijuana a person could grow or consume and ban smoking marijuana in public.…

As you consider what gifts to buy for your loved ones, keep in mind those in our community, our country and around the world who are also in need.…

Don’t fear drones delivering holiday gifts any time soon

In the big shopping days following Thanksgiving — Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday — I heard lots of talk around Sedona about the future of shopping delivery, namely a suggestion that the largest online shopping service, Amazon, could potentially start delivering orders by unmanned drone. According to related news stories, companies are also considering delivering pizzas and mail packages by drone.

This weekend, as we approach the prime time for holiday shopping, people around Sedona and the Verde Valley have asked me when drones will start delivering packages in our area.…

To know what our teenagers want and need, just ask them

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, we published feature reporter Corwin Gibson’s Coffee Talk column “Local graduates come home to find boredom” on Page 11A. The column explored Sedona Red Rock High School alumni visiting Sedona for Thanksgiving and finding, now as 20-somethings, as little to do…
