Fred Harry Coukos, 89, a resident of Cottonwood, who helped construct the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona in 1954, died Sunday, Sept. 2, in Payson.

Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lucille; daughter Christine; son Michael; Coukos is survived by a son, Rory [Carol] Coukos, of San Anselmo, Calif.; daughter Diane [James] Graceffa, of Clarkdale; brother Christopher Coukos; sister Marie Stratos; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be private.
