Sedona-Oak Creek School District trudges forward with its effort to implement Arizona’s Common Core Standards by next year, even though infrastructure to support the system is missing.

Matt Schumacher, a social studies teacher at Big Park Community School, performs a skit with Sedona Red Rock High School librarian Elaine Vail to set a positive and fun tone at the in-service. Schumacher and Vail were on a team of employees who spent two months planning for the day.Administrative and support staff joined teachers Friday, Feb. 15, for a day of staff in-service to work on integrating the new standards into their teaching. This way, everyone, regardless of whether they give instruction or support those who do, will understand where the district is going.

“I want everyone to know what we are doing,” SOCSD Superintendent Dave Lykins said.
