Water awareness flowed from Sedona all the way to the governor’s office, a recent announcement by Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano shows.

Napolitano proclaimed April “Water Awareness Month” for the entire state, directing the Arizona Department of Water Resources to “develop a water conservation tool kit” and to certify communities that educate their members about water conservation.

The proclamation, signed April 8, calls on state and local governments and federal

agencies to increase water conservation public awareness programs.…

      A 51-year-old Oregon man captured a rabid fox after the animal’s teeth became snarled in the man’s sock, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

      A second person was also attacked just an hour earlier, probably by the same fox, YCSO reported.

      Christopher Sabo, of Bend, Ore., reported he was bitten by the fox shortly before 6 p.m. while hiking in Boynton Canyon northwest of Sedona on April 16.

      Sabo said he and his wife were hiking the canyon when the fox, in an unprovoked attack, bit him on the leg.…

On Saturday, April 19, the Sedona Teen Center provides Sedona’s youth with a hardcore rock concert.

Phoenix-based band Defy Tomorrow will hit the stage at 8 p.m. and play a concert aimed at Sedona’s teens — only those age 18 and younger will be admitted.

Sedona Fire District emergency crews responded to a report of a fallen hiker at the end of Boynton Canyon Trail at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16.

According to Gary Johnson, public information officer for the district, crews hiked to the patient, finding a female with an isolated ankle injury.…

Aggressive dog shot and killed by policeSedona police officers shot and killed an aggressive dog on Thursday, April 17, at approximately 9:20 a.m.

According to Cmdr. Marlayne Hatler, SPD received a 9-1-1 call of an aggressive dog running loose in the 100 block of Andante Drive.

The dog was barking and threatening people walking on the street.…

In response to input from the community and City of Sedona, ADOT will change traffic control on Thursday, April 17 on SR 89A in the area of the Sedona Post Office and Brewer Road. The center lane that previously was used for turning movements in the area will be utilized as a through lane for the next few weeks to provide priority to northbound SR 89A traffic.

Please see the attached diagram. There will be no left hand turns allowed into and out of Brewer Road. Brewer Road will be right-in, right-out only until the Brewer Roundabout is complete within the next couple of months.…

      Construction work started the past two weeks surrounding the ‘Y’ intersection, both south on Hwy. 179 and on Hwy. 89A towards West Sedona.

      What was once a narrow two-lane roadway with open roadside ditches will become a highway with sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drain system, wider paved shoulders, landscaping, additional turning lanes and accommodations for bicycles.

      It is imperative for the community to understand that this is a major construction project. No significant improvements have been done on this road for almost 25 years.…
