A Valley man was rescued Saturday, Nov. 8, after he spent a night stranded on a ledge in Boynton Canyon.

Around noon on Saturday, the Sedona Fire District received a call from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue asking SFD’s Technical Rescue Team…

Voters in Yavapai and Coconino counties generally followed the lead of statewide voters during the 2008 general election, with a few notable exceptions. Unlike most other areas of the state, Sen. Barack Obama (D.-Ill.) won Coconino County by 8,000 votes. In Yavapai County, however, the Democrat lost by a margin of nearly two to one. He fell several hundred thousand votes short statewide.

Most Yavapai County offices were uncontested. Incumbents retained their seats for another term, including Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh, Yavapai CountyAttorney Sheila Polk and Yavapai County District 3 Supervisor Chip Davis.

The ballot issue asking voters to approve an  increase in sales tax to maintain Yavapai County jails failed  47,078 to 36,456, despite the public relations efforts of the jail district.  That means the jail probably won't be housing as many illegal immigrants and non-violent offenders in the future because it just won't have the funds to do it.

Primary colors spatter the glossy bedroom eyes of pop icon Marilyn Monroe. Her seductive, half-lidded stare and luscious ruby lips angle up as if to kiss the viewer.

Glamorous and tragic, Monroe’s double life, one for public consumption, the other, confused, chaotic and hidden from view, emerges from a canvas saturated by the bright, brilliant hues of master pop artist James Gill.

Gill’s work hangs at the great galleries of the nation, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, among others, and now, after decades away from the art scene, Sedona’s Lanning Gallery.…

Shunned by all who know its reputation, the Hill House remains empty except for its mysterious caretaker, the old Mrs. Dudley, played by Julie Zimmerman.…

After a year of some Sedona residents begging the Sedona Fire District to put plans for a proposed Chapel station on hold, SFD agreed to do just that.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, SFD announced plans to build a new station in the Chapel area would be put on hold, at least for six months, due to the national economic downturn.

For the past year, a handful of residents have attended SFD Governing Board meetings asking the board to halt plans for the station until the economy strengthens.…
