Friends and longtime Sedona residents Terrie Frankel and Col. Judith Patton have both received awards from two different organizations, coincidentally on the same day.Terrie Frankel, left, and Col. Judith Patton pose with the awards they received on the same day from two different groups. Frankel was awarded the President’s Award for Excellence in the Arts from the Vietnam Veterans of America, while Patton was awarded the Legion of Merit medal for her service in the U.S. Air Force.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, Frankel — known as one of the early Doublemint Twins with her sister Jennie in the 1960s — was honored by the Vietnam Veterans of America with the President’s Award for Excellence in Arts at the group’s national convention in Wichita, Kan., while Patton found herself the recipient of the Legion of Merit award of the U.S. Armed Forces at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale.

“It’s just funny that she got her award and I got my award on the same day,” Patton said. “She went to Kansas. Hers was at a really big convention.”

Frankel joins past recipients like entertainers Raquel Welch, Nancy Sinatra and Bob Hope, and was honored for her work with the United Serviceman’s Organization, with which she and her sister toured Vietnam during the war and entertained troops.
