A few middle school students have the opportunity to learn Friday mornings from cartoonist and screenwriter, Tom Fox, during the Artist in the Classroom series at West Sedona School. Aurora Owens, Wren Putman, Dagwood Frye, Tom Fox and Savana Rocher, from left, rehearse Frye’s screenplay “The Story Within a Story” Friday, Nov. 22, in teacher Deb Sanders’ class at West Sedona School. Fox, a local artist, taught the students the basics of screenwriting and how a scene on paper comes to life, as part of the city’s Artist in the Classroom Series.

Fox is teaching screenwriting in Deb Sanders’ seventh- and eighth-grade gifted students class.

In order to be eligible for the class, students must show an interest in screenwriting, have high grades, a referral letter from one of the school’s teachers and a high level of competency in language arts, Sanders said.

Fox is a published local author. The class was lucky to have him, Sanders said.
