English may be a second language for local teen Adrian Jaimes Gonzalez, but it hasn’t gotten in the way of him publishing his first book.Adrian Jaimes Gonzalez, 14, is a student at West Sedona School. Gonzalez spent most of his childhood in Guerrero, Mexico, but with help of a tutor has written and illustrated his first children’s book, now available online.

Gonzalez, a seventh-grade student at West Sedona School, was born in the United States, and then moved to Mexico for most of his childhood; he and his brother, Axel, returned in 2012, and at first, it was a struggle for them to deal with the language barrier.

“I was born here, but I went to Mexico. In Mexico, I lived in Guerrero. I moved back here when I was 12,” Gonzalez said. “Sometimes it can be easy, and sometimes it can be difficult.”

Thanks to the help of tutors Tanya Mayer and Linda Cooper, both boys have improved greatly with their English.
