Talk about being just in the nick of time.Recycling bins like this can be found scattered around Sedona and Cottonwood. Sedona Recycles received a $30,000 grant to fund another year of operations costs for the nonprofit. Without these funds, the public drop off sites would have been pulled at the beginning of the year.

About six months ago, Sedona Recycles Executive Director Jill McCutcheon applied for a $30,000 grant through the Walmart Foundation. The money would be used to fund the recycling program for five locations in Cottonwood. She admits, she had little hope of receiving the grant.

“I didn’t think we had a shot at all,” she said. “This was a last-ditch effort for us. We didn’t feel we had anything to lose, especially since we had exhausted all other resources. As a nonprofit organization, this type of funding is vital to the continuation of our programs and this was a great year-end boost for us.”
