Bob McCormick is all about pickleball.Bob McCormick poses with a paddle used in playing the game of pickleball. McCormick, a recent retiree to Sedona, plays the sport regularly and acts as a spokesman for the local pickleball group that plays at Sunset Park.

“It’s the fastest-growing sport in the nation,” he said after going a few rounds with some new players at Sunset Park. “We’re real excited about the game and it’s a great sport.”

McCormick, who previously worked at Purdue University, moved to Sedona eight months ago for the scenery and the weather.

“I was an environmental planning specialist in the forestry department at Purdue,” he said. “I talked about smart growth, and the way Sedona is set up with the roundabouts and the preservation of natural resources, this was also what I talked about at my job. So now I live in a place that’s doing it. It’s great.

“I like the mountains, and Colorado was another possible destination when I retired, but this has got such a longer season for outdoor activities.”
