“When you give people food and sunshine, they’re happy.” Catherine Moore, Jennette Bill, Ken Pzugan and John Terhune, from left, of the Rotary Club of Sedona on Saturday May 3, have a booth setup at the Sedona Chili Cook-Off with a quilt donated by Red Rock Quilters and Spinners Guild along with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which each month arranges for a new book to be mailed to children directly.

That was the feeling of Bob Gangnaire, of Flagstaff, after looking over the crowds of smiling people at the Rotary Club of Sedona’s fourth annual chili cook-off on Saturday, May 3, at Tlaquepaque arts and crafts village.

The rays were coming down hard over the weekend and despite temperatures pushing the low 90s, patrons snagged samples of the versatile food to crank up the heat just a few more notches.

Thirteen booths set up and handed out chili to a packed walkway in Tlapquapaque, some vendors having cooked more than 100 pounds of their particular creations. Bases included bean-free, bison meat and braised pork ribs along with the staple ground beef.
