During its fall show, the Sedona Area Guild of Artists held a raffle Dec. 5 to raise funds for the Sedona Arts Museum. The museum has been in the works since last December but has been facing obstacles along the way. Its ultimate goal is to create a place where Sedona’s wealth of artists, past and present, will have a place for their work to be displayed and archived. Mary Dove paints at her studio. A founding member of the Sedona Area Guild of Artists, Dove said that SAGA has been involved in the creation of a Sedona Art Museum, to the extent of raising funds and finding a physical space.

After a summer break, the museum is now moving forward, and the raffle was one more step towards finding a physical location. SAGA members are also the founders of the museum and have taken it upon themselves to keep the project moving forward.

So far, the endowment fund has remained in the black, and SAGA member and Sedona Arts Museum President John Warren Oakes, along with other members of the museum, have put together a board of people they feel will be able to influence the city and help provide solutions to financial and logistical problems, including the appointment of Robert MacDonald, a former U.S. foreign diplomat, as chairman.
