It’s the game with the funny name.ohn Baker of Sedona plays pickleball with a newly-installed net on the back tennis court Friday, Oct. 25, at Sunset Park. Those who are interested in playing pickleball are asked to call Sedona Parks and Recreation for the combination to unlock the net.

Pickleball, which has been around for five decades, is a unique activity that combines several sports into one. Its popularity has continued to grow despite little fanfare.
“I’ve always played racquet sports like tennis and racquetball,” said Sedona resident John Baker. “The first time I saw pickleball was two or three years ago. I liked that it was fast but easy to pick up and learn. You can learn the rules within 20 minutes and by 30 minutes be playing.”
