Jennifer Wu almost didn’t make it to her own event, or at least that’s what a comedic sketch portrayed just before she frantically arrived on stage.Jennifer Wu, the Canon keynote speaker at Sedona PhotoFest, lectures at Sedona Performing Arts Center on Thursday, June 5, on “Elusive Beauty.” The presentation covered topics such as how to compose the perfect picture with the five elements of a composition: The subject, detail, frame, time and vantage point.

Wu was Canon’s keynote speaker at the Sedona PhotoFest on Thursday, June 5, at the Sedona Performing Arts Center. The event ran through Friday, June 6, and included several speakers, events and projects that included local photographers.

Wu went through the gamut of landscape and nature photography, using examples from her collection to highlight both the good and bad. She covered topics such as power points in a photo — the cross points that converge when a photo is divided into nine or more parts — lighting and camera placement.

Wu suggested that people shoot from both a place and angle different from where most people see. She also reminded the crowd — more than 100 strong — to
take both horizontal and vertical photos.

Photos displayed on the theater screen came from all over the world. Wu has traveled to Iceland, Yosemite National Park and Hawaii to get her shots. As the lecture went through them, Wu gave a few stories of her experiences.
