The city of Sedona announced on March 11, the selection of Reagan Word as the winner of the public art competition that decided what will go on the roundabout at Schnebly Hill Road.Reagan Word, winner of the roundabout art contest, stands next to his maquette and holds a concept rendition of his sculpture “The Open Gate” on Tuesday, March 18, in his home in the Village of Oak Creek.

Word’s submission, “The Open Gate,” was one of three choices in a public opinion poll of Sedona residents, alongside “Cultural Fortitude,” by Gerry Quotskuyva and “Continuum,” by Joanne Hiscox and Lucy Paradise.

    Sculpture is very nice. What kind of bird is that and what is it's significance to Sedona?

    According to Reagan Word's artist statement, posted on the city of Sedona's website, the bird is a Great Blue Heron.
    Herons live year-round in the Sedona area, with ranges that stretch from southern Canada to Central America.
