A helicopter shines light on Bell Rock as it attempts to find two lost hikers.Sedona Fire District personnel received a call just before 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, regarding a stranded hiker on Bell Rock.

According to friends and family on the scene who had come up from Phoenix for the day, 27-year-old Brad Pflug and his friend Zaq Lockhart arrived at Bell Rock around 1 p.m. The two climbed to the top using the front-side route but chose to come down the back side.

“We took our time going up — it took us about two hours,” Lockhart said. “When we were coming down, we got to a point where we couldn’t go any further. We tried to go back up but we couldn’t. We tried doing that for about a half an hour. I was able to make my way down and call for help.”
