Sedona police officer James Carne knows he won’t go down in history along with the likes of Rembrandt van Rijn, Vincent Van Gogh or Pablo Picasso. But that’s just fine with him.Officer James Carne shows the sleek new graphic design on one of three new Sedona Police Department vehicles in the fleet, Dec. 20. Carne created the design for the new squad cars, tying in with the look of other squad cars from other Verde Valley police stations, based on input from other SPD officers.

Carne, a six-year veteran of the department, came up with the new design which can been seen on the side of the city’s newest police vehicles. He said Cmdr. Marlayne Hatler had sent out an email earlier this year to everyone in the department to see if they’d be interested in submitting an idea for a new patrol car logo. Carne was the only one who submitted an idea.

“I knew we had a problem with the old graphic — some of the layers were peeling off — so I wanted something sleek with a single design,” Carne said.

A few years ago I recall an AZ Police Department needed a new logo, they asked students from the high school and grade school to design ideas and the chosen one would be used on the police cars. I think Sedona could of benefited from something similar.
