For those of us who are independents, the primary election is evidence of structural corruption. We must "pick a party" to exercise our franchise. The parties, which are not in the US Constitution, are private clubs who somehow "own" slots on the general election ballots. And the parties have stacked the deck through redistricting so that each has safe districts. I support an open primary where the top two candidates, regardless of party, face off in the general election. Taxpayer dollars should not be spent supporting a political club's selection of their candidates, let along the likely winner.
