Elsa and Peter Gassner received a surprise guest in their home on Jan. 5 when a collared peccary — otherwise known as a javelina — made its way into their living room.A javelina stands in the living room at the home of Peter and Elsa Gassner in West Sedona. The javelina had entered the couple’s house on Jan. 5, presumably through an entrance in a new addition currently being built. The javelina was eventually safely lured out of the house with a trail of cut-up fruit.

“I went to turn off the light in our living room — I always leave it on for our dog — and as I was reaching for the light, I heard this horrendous noise,” Elsa said. “I looked down and that’s when I saw him. He was three feet from me, and he was looking at me and baring his teeth.”

The javelina, which Peter estimated to be between 80 and 100 pounds, had snuck in through an opening in a new addition currently being worked on at the couple’s house.
