When it comes to show business, Diane Ladd has just about done it all. Former Sedona resident Diane Ladd is returning to town Friday, May 9, to sign her book, “A Bad Afternoon for a Piece of Cake,” a collection of 10 short stories that spotlight characters from around the country.

Aside from being a working actress on television and in the movies for more than a half century, she’s appeared on Broadway and has directed, produced and written work for the large and small screen. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also added author to her resume.

Her latest work, A Bad Afternoon for a Piece of Cake, is a collection of 10 short stories that spotlight characters from around the country.

“Short stories are really starting to make a comeback,” Ladd said in a phone interview from her Santa Barbara, Calif., home. “Reading a short story is a quick way to relax and reduce stress. It’s better than a drink.”
