Unlike many cities, Sedona does not allow the sale or consumption of alcohol within its public parks, even in regard to special events.Sedona City Council voted to form a community work group to address the possible sale of alcohol during special events in city parks at its June 11 meeting. Those findings will be presented to the council this summer.

The topic has been brought up in the past but has been voted down each time. But now, the City Council has agreed to give it another look.

According to City Manager Tim Ernster, multiple Sedona community organizations have recently contacted the city and requested it reconsider its policy of not allowing the consumption of alcohol in city parks or on city property.

Ernster said within a two-week period the city received letters of support to change the ordinance from the Sedona Historical Society, Sedona Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Association, Sedona-Verde Valley Pride and the Sedona International Film Festival as well as other nonprofit organizations.
