It came down to hope over higher priorities and in the end, hope won out.Sedona City Council voted 5-2 on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to purchase 3.5 acres of land at 250 Brewer Road for $650,000. City Council had considered condemning the property but, in the end, decided to proceed with the purchase of the land for public use.

In a 5-2 decision, the Sedona City Council voted Tuesday, Nov. 26, in favor of the purchase of 3.5 acres at 250 Brewer Road. The price tag: $650,000.

The money comes from a special fund that can only be used to purchase land for parks within the city. Any improvements to land purchased through this fund must come from the general fund.

Councilmen John Martinez and Mike Ward voted against the purchase, stating that there is no money to make needed improvements at this time to the property. Also, they felt money that may be used for improvements should be used for other city needs like drainage.
