Last month’s 12th annual Sedona Metric Centuries Tour raised money for local teachers and also raised the hopes of its sponsors for greater participation and proceeds next year.Steve McClain tunes up a bicycle Friday, Nov. 1, at his shop in the Village of Oak Creek. He has sponsored the annual Sedona Metric Centuries Tour for the past five years. This year’s charity bicycle ride, which took place Oct. 5, raised more than $2,000 for the Parent Teacher Student Association at Big Park Community School.

The 125 bicycle enthusiasts who competed in this year’s tour on Oct. 5 helped raise more than $2,000 for Big Park Community School and its Parent Teacher Student Association.

Steve McClain, a bike shop owner and sponsor, is confident that those numbers can go higher next year.

“I think this community has the ability to get into the 400 to 500 [participant] range,” he said. “I think that is an attainable goal.”

How convenient that the school holds a school sponsored parent-student walk event when kids are holding up signs "vote today". It's this a little hypocritical and conflict of interest for teachers asking for a raise have their students carrying signs.
