It took three decades, but Mimi Harrington Carlson has successfully visited all seven continents and now has a book out to inspire young readers to be adventurous.Mimi Harrington Carlson stands with her new children’s book in West Sedona at a coffee shop on Tuesday, May 27. Carlson, who spent three decades traveling to every continent by herself, wrote “Beyond Never: The Making of an Adventure,” a child’s world travelogue based off her experiences and using her daughter, Nichole Frederic, as the character in the book.

“It was my goal to go to every continent, and it took me 30 years, and that’s the good news and it’s also the bad news because it took me 30 years,” she joked. “It took me a long time and I had to save a lot of money to go to all these different places.”

“Beyond Never: The Making of an Adventurer” chronicles the adventures of a girl named Allez who travels to each continent in spite of her fears.

A Sedona resident for more than three years, Carlson previously lived near Seattle where she worked as an elementary school teacher for 35 years.

Carlson said that traveling became something that brought her and her students together, as she would return from her trips abroad with stories and photos to share.
