Laila Ghali Armstrong isn’t a stranger to interviews, or much else for that matter.Laila Ghali Armstrong sells a statue to one of her customers at a shop in Uptown where she is a buyer and consultant. Armstrong has done charitable work for children all over the world and here in Sedona.

Originally from Egypt, Armstrong has lived an international life, spending significant time in the United Arab Emirates and Japan, among other nations, before coming to Sedona.

Armstrong has made a reputation for herself as a philanthropist, she said. She has raised money for charity much of her life. She has walked to Cottonwood from Sedona to help area children, which she said was a big success, and helped those in need abroad.

Some of her work has made it into other publications. She was featured in the Dubai, UAE, magazine Friday, the Khaleej Times and many other TV and print segments.

Among Armstrong’s charities is the Friends of Children with Cancer. She formed the group in the UAE after visiting a hospital in Egypt that treated youth with malignant diseases.

While doing what she can as a fundraiser, Armstrong said she has met a lot of fascinating people, including Egyptologist Zahi Hawass in 1999. She said he was the foremost authority in his field and naturally was interested in his work on her homeland.
