Airport Road will soon receive a facelift thanks to a joint project paid for by the city and Yavapai County.Sedona City Council approved the job order contract with C and E Paving & Grading to start a road rehabilitation project next week on Airport Road. The project is expected to take 60 days to complete and will cost $575,422. The road will remain open with one-lane, flagged traffic.

On Aug. 12, the Sedona City Council approved a contract with C and E Paving & Grading, LLC, in the amount of $575,422, to repave Airport Road. The project will take place between the northern U.S. Forest Service boundary and the parking pullout/overlook area at the top of the mesa.

The project will provide new asphalt paving, trailhead parking improvements, drainage improvements and bank stabilization in areas where previous drainage problems have caused extensive erosion.

Yavapai County had requested the project limits be extended an additional 800 feet to Air Terminal Drive. The county will reimburse the city for $350,000 of the total cost associated with the project through an intergovernmental agreement. The city will be responsible for the remaining $225,000.
