It was paddles for poodles last weekend, as Sedonans turned out for an auction to support all  companion animals.

The Humane Society of Sedona held its third annual Help the Animals Auction on Saturday, May 10, at the Sedona Elks Lodge.

Attendees could bid on a range of items, including art, gift certificates and rounds of golf. According to Betsy Klein, organizer of the auction and marketing and development director of the Humane Society of Sedona, there was something for everyone, from $30 items to $3,000 high-end items.

Klein said the event has become a large success since its inception.

“It was originally an idea of the thrift store. A manager and some volunteers put together the fundraiser. It was originally in the parking lot in the Village,” Klein said. “It was much smaller but it did very well. Last year, they moved it to a restaurant and bar, which was great, and we doubled the net proceeds for the event. This year, since it’s grown so much, we moved to the Elks Lodge because it has more of that
community, old-fashioned auction feel.”
