As communities continue to grow and encroach upon nature, encounters between humans and wild animals are almost inevitable. Sedona is no exception.

Blacktailed rattlesnakes [Crotalos molossus] are the least aggressive of the rattlesnake species and will not rattle but remain still unless provoked.One of the most feared creatures in Arizona is the rattlesnake. But even the sight of non-venomous snakes is enough to get the heart pounding and the hair on the back of the neck to stand on end.

As the summer comes to an end, so does snake season in the Sedona area, which traditionally runs from late May to early September.
