Sedona Red Rock High School now has a food pantry in the works, and it’s thanks to the dedication of its own students.Kai Simson, a freshman at Sedona Red Rock High School, sits next to the school’s food pantry on Tuesday, April 15. Simson is part of the effort to create a food pantry at the school with Yavapai Food Council. Last August, Simson urged that child hunger be made a top priority in a speech made while running for freshman representative to student council. On Saturday, April 12, Lily Davis, also an SRRHS student, and Simson presented a check for $2,000 to Yavapai Food Council for the neighborhood food drive at the YMCA at Posse Grounds Park in West Sedona.

Students Kai Simson and Lily Davis have teamed up with the Yavapai Food Council to create the pantry , which will provide food for SRRHS students in need, similar to recent pantries started at Sedona YMCA and Verde Valley School.

The pantry, located inside the former school bookstore, is small, but will grow as more donations are brought in.

SRRHS Principal Darrin Karuzas credited Simson with getting things in motion on the project.
