One of Sedona’s own has gone on to help many abroad and she hasn’t even reached age 25 yet.

Blaney had grown up in Sedona before moving to Portland, Ore., where she now spreads awareness to area Native American tribes about car accident deaths and runs her own nonprofit organization that helps female victims of sexual abuse in rural India.
Hanna Blaney, an alumna of Verde Valley School and a Sedona native, has spent the past year helping widows in rural India by starting her own nonprofit organization, the Society for Health Education Leadership Training Extension Research — or SHELTER — International, a 501(c)(3).

“I’m busy, and I like what I’m doing,” Blaney said.

Blaney said that her interests through college were biology and gender studies.
