Despite any obstacles that might have gotten in the way, West Sedona School has continued an annual tradition this week by holding its Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, Dec. 2, to Friday, Dec. 6.Viridiana Trinidad, left, and Brittany Medel, both eighth-grade students at West Sedona School, pay for bracelets and books at the school’s book fair on Wednesday, Dec. 4, inside the school library. The book fair is an annual fundraising event held at many schools across the country through a program with Scholastic Inc., a publisher and distributor of many popular books for children and young adults.

“We weren’t even sure we were going to have it this year, since we no longer have a librarian,” school secretary Teresa Lamparter said. “People were asking ‘Are we having one this year?’ And I said, ‘Of course we are!’”

The library aide position was one of several cuts made by the Sedona-Oak Creek School District over the summer. Traditionally, the librarian or library aide has been the one to organize the book fair at the school.
