Raw sewage spills out of View Drive manhole

Sewage ran down View Drive and into an adjoining yard on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m.

Three members of the Sedona city wastewater staff responded to the spill, bringing their giant vacuum truck to clean out the plugged manhole.

Two members of the city’s public works department also responded.

“We’ll clean it out and then send the pressure hose through the line with a camera on it to see what’s going on,” said Reed Kramer, from the city’s public works staff.

Only one yard was affected by the runoff and Kramer said that decontamination fluid would be applied to clean it up.

No one is currently occupying the residence which had a “for sale” sign on it.

Kramer said that manhole overflows in the city are not common, and are usually caused by residents throwing out grease and other materials that plug the sewer lines.
