Dozens gathered to get the first look at the Slide Fire Story: A Photographic Tribute to Oak Creek Canyon in the special exhibition gallery at the Sedona Arts Center.Gary Karademos walks around, looking at the different photos on display from the Slide Fire at the Sedona Arts Center for the Slide Fire Story exhibit. The show will run through Sunday, July 20.

The show will run through Sunday, July 20, at SAC, but David Simmer, president of the Rotary Club of Sedona, said hopefully the show will travel to Flagstaff and Phoenix. Rotary Club of Sedona and the Rotary of the Red Rocks — the two local Rotary clubs — organized the show.

Any donations received at the show will benefit two organizations: The Arizona Wildfire and Incident Management Academy and the Slide Fire Disaster Response Fund, which was established by the Arizona Community Foundation.

Lynette Jennings, art director and organizer of the show, was excited for people to go in as the outdoor opening ceremonies began.

“I’m excited because when you enter the exhibition, it isn’t what you expect in terms of the current environment,”
she said. “My intention selecting the photographs was to give you a moment to really reflect on what fire means, to everyone — firefighters, management teams, canyon businesses — all of us who are protectors of the environment.”
