What started out as a possible signature holiday event quickly received backlash from some in the community as well as concerns regarding a recent city designation.Holiday Central Sedona Committee withdrew its proposal for a laser show on the red rocks in Uptown due to community opposition and because it did not meet Dark-Sky guidelines.

Sedona Night Lights was to begin with animated snowflakes falling from the sky in front of Sedona’s red rock vistas accompanied by a choreographed laser light show with music piped through the streets and shops. From 6 to 8 p.m., a 10-minute laser light show would entertain the crowd every 30 minutes — similar to the lights at Niagara Falls.

The Dark Sky designation is a joke. We are pumping more light from the new street lights and grandfathered business lighting than ever before into the sky. If the city doesn't want more tourists for the holiday season they should just say so.
