Jason Vargo is one of two lead singers for Yin Yang & Zen Some, a six-musician, costumed party band playing Saturday, Feb. 23, at Oak Creek Brewing Co., in West Sedona. The band encourages concert-goers to dress in costume around an outer space and sci-fi theme.

The band members formed to play a Halloween costume show in Sedona in 2005. Audience demand brought the band to the stage a few weeks later and the group decided to perform in costume again, encouraging concert-goers to do the same.

Since then, the themes have been a consistent part of the performance.

The band members include lead singers Jason Vargo and Nate Mullins, drummer Lou Moretti, bass guitarist Dylan Jung and guitarist Mike Jung and guitar and keyboard player Chris Jerman, the newest addition to the band.

The group also builds sets based on the particular concert’s themes, which adds to the atmosphere of the performance.

Outer space and sci-fi themes form the groundwork for the Saturday.

“Yin Yang & Zen Some is the band from outer space. With their intergalactic grooves and universal dance music, they aim to conquer the entire planet, starting with Sedona,” Dylan Jung stated in a press release.

Expect to see Klingons, Stormtroopers, Cylons, Romulons or maybe Flash Gordon in the crowd. Come in costume and dance or just to see other residents’ costumed creativity burst forth for a night.

Past shows have ranged from “Masquerade Ball,” “Superhero Night” and the most recent “Surrealistic Show.”
