Fred DuVal has never held an elected office but he sees that as a positive instead of a negative as he seeks the state’s highest seat.Gubernatorial candidate Fred Duval speaks with Sedona residents Tuesday, June 10, at the Democrats of the Red Rocks headquarters.

DuVal was in Sedona on Tuesday, June 10, to meet with residents at the Democrats of the Red Rocks. He’s the only Democrat running for the office of governor while Republicans have eight candidates vying for the position.

“Arizona is at the tipping point and we’re moving in the wrong direction,” he said in an interview following the meeting. “There have been cuts in education, we have a high unemployment rate and even though jobs are coming back, they don’t pay what they used to. The percentage of college grads leaving the state is higher than it’s ever been. Things need to change.”

The decision to run for governor is not one he took lightly, he said. But he felt this was the time do so for not only himself but for the state.
