The idea of a bike skills park in Sedona has been batted around for quite some time. But now that it’s becoming a reality, steps are in place to ensure the project stays on course.Lauren Vanier and Michael Raney build endurance and better their bike handling skills warming up on pump track laps at a West Sedona bike shop Thursday, Dec. 19. A community task force of area cyclists, city staff and bicycle shop owners has been formed to raise funds for the design of a new 13-acre bike skills park at Posse Grounds Park. For the design phase, $30,000 needs to be raised.

One of those ways is through the creation of a bike skills task force, which was recently formed. It’s made up of bike shops owners, residents, Parks and Recreation Manager Rachel Murdoch and Bicycle Coordinator Doug Copp.

The Sedona City Council voted 5-1 on Oct. 5 to move forward with the project, which will be located at Posse Grounds Park, adjacent to the skate park and future Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park. Vice Mayor Mark DiNunzio said he was in favor of the park but was the one dissenting vote. He wanted to take things a step further and have the city pay for the design.

I would like to volunteer with help move this project forward if there is anyway I can help, please contact me. Bicycling is a great and healthy activity and I support this cause.
