Hundreds of students from Sedona Red Rock High School had a rare opportunity to see and touch a piece of history from one of this country’s saddest days.Lt. John Jacquette, of Highland Park Fire Department outside of Chicago, speaks to Sedona Red Rock High School students Wednesday, Feb. 5, about the Fire Department of New York Rescue 5 fire truck that was at Ground Zero during the collapse of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks, including 343 firefighters.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, the students and faculty got a chance to see Rescue 5 — one of the many New York City fire trucks that responded to the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Rescue 5 is now part of the Chicago-based nonprofit Rescue Remembrance Project, and serves as a mobile memorial to educate, honor and remember the events of 9/11.

The project is currently operated by volunteer firefighters who donate their time with all donations and proceeds used for apparatus restoration, fuel, repairs and travel expenses.
