Money can’t buy love, but can it buy votes? The answers, as revealed by this week’s election for Sedona Mayor and City Council, are: Yes, no and maybe.Former Sedona Mayor Dick Ellis and his wife Jo emerge from the Elks Lodge after voting in Sedona’s election.

Yes, Angela LeFevre spent the most and won a seat on council and, yes, Jon Thompson — the second-highest spender among council candidates — prevailed as well.

No, Cliff Hamilton did not defeat Sandy Moriarty in the mayoral race despite outspending her.

Maybe Rio Robson will defeat Scott Jablow in the November runoff election, although there is more spending to be done before then.

Actually, the complete financials from the primary election aren’t yet available, but the candidates were required to file their final pre-primary reports by Aug. 22. Those reports list contributions and expenditures through Aug. 14.

Post-primary reports — which will span the final 12 days of the campaign through Monday, Sept. 15 — must be filed by Thursday, Sept. 25.
