Sedona hosts a large number of community events for a small town.

From festivals to concerts, films to running, it’s not often we find ourselves scrambling to fill our pages with event coverage.

Wednesday evening, June 6, one group responsible for the success of several of Sedona’s signature events gathered to prepare for a new year.

Behind the scenes of much of what goes on in Uptown and along portions of State Route 89A, you’ll find a small board of dedicated business people and volunteers working to make the area the best it can be in terms of services and events offered.

It’s tiring and sometimes frustrating, I’m sure, but since the late ’90s, the Sedona Main Street Program has done everything in its power to make its district functional and fun.

At the program’s annual meeting Wednesday, members said farewell, kind of, to one of their founding board members and an instrumental person in the production of all of the program’s events.

Judy Tolley stepped down from the board, despite urging to do otherwise, but agreed to stay on with the promotions committee.

Tolley played a key role in establishing one of the program’s upcoming events — National Day of the Cowboy, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 28.

Started just a few years ago, this event grows every year and program Executive Director Holly Epright said this year won’t disappoint.

National Day of the Cowboy is just one of several events the program puts on for the community.

Members and volunteers are busy year-round planning, organizing and producing events for children, visitors, residents and businesses.

The program always keeps every stakeholder in mind when producing its festivals. They aren’t just for locals or only for visitors. The events bridge the gap and bring everyone in Sedona on a particular day together.

The Sedona Main Street Program is also responsible for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival, Moonlight Madness Street Festival & Sidewalk Sales, Paint Out on Main Street during the Sedona Plein Air Festival, Uptown Trick or Treating and the Holiday Tree Lighting & Santa Visit.
