All-night parties aren’t something Sedona is known for, but there’s one that deserves a place on everyone’s calendar.

Entertainment, luminarias and camping under the stars are all on the agenda starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21.

Sedona Red Rock News Managing Editor Trista Steers MacVittieThat’s when the annual Sedona American Cancer Society Relay For Life will hold its 14-hour fundraiser to fight cancer.

In the meantime, organizers are busily working to make sure this year’s event is bigger and better than last year’s.

Frankly, Relay often struggles in Sedona.

It’s hard to find people to volunteer, team numbers can be low, and it competes with one of the city’s biggest events seasons — fall.

Let’s not let that happen again this year.

Join the pre-party Monday, July 30, to sign up for a team, volunteer or simply receive information about the big plans for this year.

The meeting will be upstairs at Sedona Springs Resort on Northview Road at 6 p.m.

For more information, contact Christy Harper at 300-2900.

Money raised goes to the American Cancer Society.

As it has in the past, the Relay will take place at the Sedona Red Rock High School’s track and football field.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.

Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path.

Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are always an overnight event.

Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness about cancer prevention and treatment.

Every person has been touched by cancer in some way throughout their life, even if they themselves haven’t experienced the devastating and destructive disease.

It could be a grandparent, parent, spouse, child, sibling, distant relative, friend, co-worker, neighbor or casual acquaintance who received a cancer diagnosis.

Whomever it is, you can help them and millions of others in their fight by sparing one night of your life to take a stand.

Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people each year.
