The Sedona International Film Festival creates excitement every year, but this year the festival has something big to celebrate.

After 18 years, the film festival unveils its very own theater thanks to a generous contribution from Sedona resident Mary Fisher.

The Mary D. Fisher Theatre for the Sedona International Film Festival will screen its first films during this year’s festival, which takes place Saturday, Feb. 18, through Sunday, Feb. 26.

Construction crews worked busily to ensure the boutique theater would be ready to host filmgoers during the festival, and those who attend a film there are bound to be impressed.

The theater is small, elegant and intimate, an ideal setting for watching independent films, which reflect the same image themselves.

Whether movie buffs attend films at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, Harkins Theatres Sedona 6, the Sedona Performing Arts Center or The Rouge, they are bound to enjoy another impressive lineup brought to Sedona.

From local movies made by students from the Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking to Emilio Estevez’s film featuring himself and his famous father, Martin Sheen, there is something to please all tastes.

Many directors and film stars will also be in town to answer questions about their films and enjoy a small-town festival that’s become a premier event in the world of independent filmmaking.

Luckily for the film festival organization, Sedona is home to thousands of residents who enjoy inspiring, educational and entertaining films, which makes packing the house an easy feat.

The nonprofit returns the love by selecting top-rate films to show its festival audience and those who attend the numerous screenings put on throughout the year.

The film festival has created a comfortable home for itself over the past 18 years, and now Fisher has rewarded it with its very own house in the community.

Aside from the hours of theater time residents and visitors can accumulate in the next week, the film festival also offers various programs and events to keep people busy. From the Red Carpet Event featuring “The Last Picture Show” to the exclusive Cast Party Gala, Sedona will be hopping all week long.
